Our Services
During your first appointment a detailed history will be taken, followed by a thorough assessment of your condition.
You will receive expert advice and treatment and will be provided with a personal recovery programme tailored to your needs.
With your permission we will liaise with your GP and provide a detailed discharge summary at the end of your treatment.
What we can treat:
- neck pain and headaches
- low back pain
- sciatica
- knee pain
- repetitive over use injuries
- post surgical rehabilitation including joint replacements
- arthritis
- sports related-injuries
- joint and muscle pain
What we can do:
- Manipulation: Manipulation involves precisely handling and mobilising joints or parts of the spine. This may result in a clicking sound, possibly caused by gases within the liquid of the joint. Manipulation helps to reduce pain, increase movement and speed up recovery in certain types of lower back and neck problems.
- Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a technique of inserting fine needles into particular points of the body. It is a system of healing that has been practiced in China and other eastern countries for thousands of years. It may be used with other physiotherapy skills to help reduce tissue inflammation and pain and to promote recovery. Acupuncture needling has be shown to stimulate the body's own pain-relieving chemicals (endorphins) and can therefore be useful in painful conditions such as osteoarthritis and low back pain.
- Massage: Massage involves handling soft tissues, such as muscle, ligaments and tendons, using pressure and stretching movements.
Benefits include:
- Improve circulation
- Aid drainage of excess fluid
- Improve movement
- Relieve pain
- Aid relaxation
Massage may help a range of conditions, including problems with the neck, back and limbs, headaches, and stress.
- Sports Rehabilitation: Enables you to return to your chosen sport as quickly as possible and reduce the risk of re-injury in future. Dennis has worked with elite athletes within the NHS, private practice and a Premiership football team.
- Post surgery rehabilitation: Specialising in helping you to “return to normal” after surgery. Dennis has worked with some of the leading orthopaedic surgeons in the country.
- Biomechanical assessment: Human feet comprise of 52 bones, 66 joints, 214 ligaments and 38 muscles and tendons. A relatively small misalignment of that system may cause painful effects throughout the whole body. Biomechanics involves assessment of the structure, alignment and function of the feet, ankles, legs, thighs, hips and lower back to identify these small misalignments. Our complete biomechanical assessment will help us identify the problem and how to manage it most effectively.
- Postural and ergonomic advice: 'Posture' means the way you hold yourself when sitting, standing, lying down or moving around. Postural advice involves helping you to become aware of your current posture, and working with you to improve your posture. Posture is often improved by breaking old habits. This may be done by finding ways to remember to regularly check and improve one's position, and through exercises to strengthen certain muscle groups. Postural awareness is particularly important for people who have office based jobs, where sitting at a desk for long periods can place increased stress on the body.
- Pilates: Pilates focuses on building your body's core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises.
By core strength, we are talking about your back, abdominal and pelvic muscles.
Based upon an anatomical understanding of the body's muscular and skeletal systems, Dennis will create a comprehensive exercise programme for you. Exercises will focus on specific areas individually whilst using exercises that integrate the whole body to re-educate and restore it to optimum muscular and skeletal function
- Pre-operative preparation: We can also advise on pre-operative regimes to prepare you for surgery e.g. hip or knee replacement surgery. This can help reduce your recovery time after the operation.
